Shifting pitch moves a recording up or down in key while leaving its timing alone. Musicians use it to match an instrument they cannot retune; anyone else might use it to disguise a voice or fix a track recorded slightly flat.
How to use it
- Select the audio you want to shift.
- Move the pitch up or down by the amount you need.
- Export the shifted file.
Worth knowing
Small shifts sound natural. Large ones stretch the character of a voice or instrument, which is obvious to listeners well before it becomes unpleasant.
Common questions
- Does the track get shorter or longer?
- No. Pitch shifting is separate from speed — the running time stays as it was.
- How much is too much?
- A semitone or two is usually undetectable. Beyond about four, most voices start to sound artificial.
