Playback speed changes how long a recording takes without editing its content — handy for getting a lecture through faster, or slowing a passage of music down enough to follow it note by note.
How to use it
- Load the audio file you want to retime.
- Set a speed above or below normal.
- Apply and download the adjusted file.
Worth knowing
Simple speed changes move pitch as well as tempo, so a faster recording sounds higher. If you need the timing changed but the pitch kept, adjust the pitch back afterwards.
Common questions
- How fast can speech go before it is unclear?
- Most listeners cope with 1.5x and many manage 2x on clear recordings. Poor audio becomes unintelligible much sooner.
- Does slowing audio down improve clarity?
- It gives you more time to process what is there — it cannot add detail the recording never captured.
