About Keyword Density

Keyword density measures how often a term appears relative to the total word count. Its usefulness today is mostly diagnostic: it shows whether a page has drifted into repeating a phrase far more than natural writing would.

How to use it

  1. Paste the page copy you want to check.
  2. Review the frequency of each term.
  3. Rewrite anything that repeats unnaturally.

Worth knowing

There is no target density to hit. Search engines stopped rewarding repetition long ago and penalise obvious stuffing, so treat a high figure as a prompt to read the sentence aloud.

Common questions

What density should I aim for?
None in particular. Write for the reader; use this to catch accidental over-repetition rather than to hit a number.
Do synonyms count?
Not in the raw figure, though they are exactly what natural writing uses instead of repeating a phrase.
